Rivers Cuomo is an American musician best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of the alternative rock band Weezer. Raised in an ashram in Connecticut, Cuomo moved to Los Angeles at age 19, where he participated in a number of rock bands before founding Weezer in 1992, with whom he has released nine studio albums. Albums That Never Were: Weezer - Songs From The Black Hole
Alone III: The Pinkerton Years 1994-1997 is a compilation album by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. It is the third entry in the Alone Series following 2007's Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo and 2008's Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo. It was included as a CD insert included with the (now out-of-print) book The Pinkerton Diaries, and was re-released in 2020 on the demo storefront on riverscuomo.com as part of a bundle with Alone IV: The Blue-Pinkerton Years.
Overview
The title 'Alone III: The Pinkerton Years' was announced in an August 19, 2010 post by Rivers Cuomo on the weezer.com forums. On the release date of Hurley, during the 98.7 radio event 'Breakfast With Weezer', Cuomo stated that Alone III would come out in December 2010 and would contain the rest of the unreleased Songs from the Black Hole. He later posted on his Facebook account that it had been greenlit and would, hopefully, be released in January 2011. During a 'Nerd Night' in September 2011, Sarah C. Kim stated that the album should be released in November. The album was finally released December 12, 2011.
Though the album's subtitle suggests that it contains songs between the years 1994 and 1997, this range actually only applies to the accompanying Pinkerton Diaries. The songs featured on the CD range from 1993 to 1996.
Cuomo played several of the demos on USTREAM before the CD was released, including I'm Lonely On A Saturday Night, I'm on Fire, You're a Liar, Getchoo, Susanne, Waiting On You, and Now I Finally See.
Contrary to rumor, Rivers' demo of 'Devotion' is not known to have been considered for inclusion on the album.
